Victoria Mallard was the Scottish mother of Doctor and NCIS Medical Examiner Donald Mallard.
Victoria Mallard lived with her son in Scotland, but moved to American after he was born. They lived in a large mansion of the classical American style of architecture popular in the antebellum Southern United States. In Hiatus Part 2 (episode), Ducky mentioned that she left him on a bus as an infant, and was halfway to her destination before she noticed he was gone.
Ducky's mother's name has been given as both Victoria and Vanessa, and there is also contradictory information about her age. However, discrepancies notwithstanding, Mrs. Mallard was 96 when she was introduced in the Season 2 episode The Meat Puzzle (episode), and according to Ducky was suffering from dementia.
When Anthony DiNozzo and Caitlin Todd were at her house on protective detail, Mrs. Mallard frequently forgot who Tony was and alternately believed that he was a gigolo and that he had come to move her furniture. Also, as soon as she met Kate, Mrs. Mallard demanded that Kate show her her underwear, because "one can always tell a woman's intention from her panties."
Mrs. Mallard also appeared in the third-season episode Untouchable (episode). Her home-care nurse had abruptly cancelled, forcing Ducky to bring her to the building for the afternoon.
To free Ducky for work, Abigail Sciuto gave Mrs. Mallard a tour of her lab, where she took an instant liking to Bert the farting hippo, saying that he reminded her of her bagpipe-playing days. She also told Abby that she looked very much like Mrs. Mallard's sister, Gloria. She then went on to say that Gloria tried to sleep with her now deceased husband.
In spite of Abby's watchful eye, Mrs. Mallard wandered off and tried to get into MTAC, setting off several alarms and nearly being apprehended by armed security guards. However, Leroy Jethro Gibbs rescued her and escorted her back downstairs, while she flirted with him non-stop much to Ducky's dismay.
In the Season 6 episode Silent Night (episode), Ducky mentioned that he was going to visit his mother in her new home, which was a rest home.
In the seventh-season episode Flesh and Blood (episode), Leon Vance asked after Ducky's mother, and Ducky responded that she was "slowly slipping away," implying that although she was still alive, her condition was worsening.
Mrs. Mallard died in 2010, a month before the events chronicled in the episode Double Identity (episode). Ducky didn't have a service, or even tell anyone, because all of his mother's friends had predeceased her and he didn't want to burden the team with his grief, which he felt was a private matter.
After his mother's death, Ducky put her house on the market for sale, and began the process of buying a historic brownstone in Georgetown. He also ensured that her beloved Corgis were adopted by a lover of the breed in Virginia. Abby was the first to discover this, having followed Ducky to his mother's graveside and upon learning what had happened, gave him a hug. She presumably later informed Gibbs of this and he too confronted Ducky over why he hadn't told the team that his mother had passed away.
Mrs. Mallard's tombstone gives her first name as Victoria, and raises a further discrepancy because the dates on the tombstone are 1912-2010, making her either ninety-seven or ninety-eight at the time of her death (depending on when in the year her birthday was). However, in The Meat Puzzle, her age was given as ninety-six, which would make her birth year 1908 or 1909 and her age at death 101, since she died almost exactly five years later.
