Thompson was a Petty Officer assigned to the USS Philadelphia and was also one of the five suspects that Special Agents Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Caitlin Todd interviewed after realizing that an imposter might be on board the sub.

Thompson claimed that he had graduated high school a year late due to mono but in actuality, he had been in juvie and he was worried that if the Navy found out, he'd never be able to get onto a sub which was why his record was sealed in the first place.

He was found innocent and even helped Gibbs and the other crew members get ready to throw the fake Drew's body off the sub through a torpedo hole as the imposter had swallowed a small capsule containing sarin gas that would have killed the entire crew if it had gotten out.
