At the conclusion of Reveille McGee was made a junior field agent undert the supervision of Gibbs. The premiere episode of the second season entitled See No Evil marked Sean Murray's transition from a recurring role to that of a series regular.
The second season also witnessed the death of Kate Todd at the hands of Ari Haswari in the concluding moments of the episode entitled Twilight. Sasha Alexander expressed a desire to leave the series after the second season to start a family and pursue other projects. Her rationale as explained by Donald Bellisario on the DVD realease for season two, was the renewal of the series for a third season had come as a surprise too her because, no prior series with which she had been involved had last more than two seasons, as she had not planned to stay more than two seasons. Her final appearances in the series occurred in the third season premiere episode entitled Kill Ari Part 1.
