Ray Cruz is a CIA operative and also an ex-boyfriend of former NCIS Special Agent Ziva David.
Biography
Pre-Series
NCIS Season 8
He is first present in Two-Faced (episode), but is mentioned a few times before as he and Ziva began dating when Ziva was in Miami, when they were looking for Paloma Reynosa. He came to visit Ziva in "Two-faced", but he was also in DC to work on a case connected to the Port-to-Port killer. He and Ziva have a complicated relationship, but it is clear that they both loved each other.
As the pair continued to get closer, the season eight finale saw Ray leaving the country on business. Before saying goodbye, he gave Ziva an empty ring box and declared it as a promise of his return. The gesture was romantic and Ziva seemed happy to be with Ray, even if he was going away.
NCIS Season 9
He makes his last appearance in A Desperate Man (episode) when he comes to see Ziva after they have not talked for a while. Ziva and Ray were still not on the best terms as he stood her up for a planned dinner date and she had enough at this point. She was ready to break up with him when Ray got down on one knee with a ring and asked for her hand in marriage. She said she had to think about it and did not accept the proposal immidiately. For a moment, Ziva looked like she was seriously considering the proposal, but then she recognizes Ray's phone number that has been in the exact same places in Islamabad as Barry Norton, the second victim in the case and realizes that Ray is responsible. She confronts him and Ray admits that his target was Norton at that he killed Maya Burris accidentally.
