Kyle Thomas Boone was a notorious and psychopathic serial killer responsible for killing many women during the 1990s in Virginia.

History

Boone was born to a prostitute and one of her many clients, his identity unknown. Little is known about Boone's past, but her mother supposedly left town when Boone was twelve years old. However, she had actually been murdered by her son, becoming his first ever victim with her death later, leaving young Boone in the care of his unnamed uncle, growing up on his farm.

In the 1990s, Boone became a notorious serial killer responsible for twenty-two murders, all of them women. He abducted his victims, tortured them, carved a heart into their backs and took body parts (usually their tongues) as trophies.

One of his victims was a U.S. Navy Petty Officer, Desiree Ann Rivera, bringing his activities within the jurisdiction of NCIS. Consequently, he was eventually caught by Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (who reportedly spent so much time on the investigation that his wife of the time divorced him). Boone was convicted of multiple counts of first degree murder and sentenced to death. He was transferred to Death Row at Sussex State Prison, to await execution; despite being allowed to choose between lethal injection and the electric chair, he chose the latter. Presumably, this was done out of arrogance; while in prison, a man named Adam O'Neill became his lawyer. O'Neill sought him out purposefully, and became his apprentice, whihc resulted in the deaths of four more women while Boone was in prison.

A week before his execution, Boone offered to reveal to the authorities where he had hidden the still-missing remains of some of his victims. To offer the victims's families closure, the authorities agreed to let Boone lead them to an old farmhouse in Virginia. It turned out to be a sick joke, the officers finding nothing except an old can full of severed tongues.

Boone then requested a conversation with Gibbs, offering (this time in earnest) to reveal the location. Gibbs and his team searched through Boone's old house, finding a scrap book with pictures of his known victims, plus those of five other women. One of these women was identified as Boone's own mother, whom he had killed in 1974.

By analyzing the scrapbook photos, and combining them with satellite imagery, Timothy McGee and Abigail Sciuto were able to locate the burial sites. At one of these, Special Agents Anthony DiNozzo and Paula Cassidy, discovered the corpse of a woman who had been killed in the same manner as Boone's other victims, but who had disappeared after Boone was imprisoned. Gibbs realized that Boone had a copycat, or an accomplice, who was still at large.

Suspicion fell on John Briggs, a sleazy tabloid reporter who had been dogging the NCIS team's footsteps, demanding the "scoop" on Boone, but this turned out to be a red herring. While the rest of the team was investigating Boone's dumping ground, O'Neill kidnapped Agent Cassidy and took her to a barn to torture and kill her.

Gibbs realized that Boone had masterminded the whole plot, to force the state to cut a deal to stay his execution. He tried to threaten Boone into confessing where Cassidy was, including threatening to burn Boone's scrapbook and placing his backup revolver to Boone's temple. Boone feigned desperation before he laughed off Gibbs's threats, confident that Gibbs would have no choice but to agree to a deal (or, if Gibbs had lost control and shot him, Gibbs would have ruined his own career, which would have been almost as sweet).

But it turned out that Gibbs was playing his own game: he pretended to give up and ordered Boone taken back to Death Row. Boone, assuming Gibbs was bluffing, began recounting what was being done to Agent Cassidy at that moment - only for Cassidy herself to appear beside Gibbs, bruised but alive. Despite being tied up, she had managed to overpower and kill O'Neill.

In farewell, Gibbs told Boone to "enjoy Hell." Realizing that his plot had failed and there was nothing left he could do to hold off his execution by the electric chair, Boone screamed helplessly as he was dragged away. It can be assumed that he was executed shortly afterwards.

Modus Operandi

Boone would track any random woman and upon kidnapping them, would take them to an abandoned location before torturing them to death, involving cutting out their tongues and taking them as trophies. When they were dead, he carved a heart into their backs, which became his emblem.

Known Victims

Victims by Proxy

The following were targets of Kyle's lawyer Adam O'Neill:

  • Four unnamed victims (same M.O as Boone's).
  • NCIS Special Agent Paula Cassidy (kidnapped, and attempted murder but she fought back and killed him).
