Claire Connell was a candidate for the position left vacant by Ziva David's return to Israel.

Claire Connell was an agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration at the time of her preliminary interview with Agents Anthony DiNozzo and Timothy McGee. Possessing a sharp intellect and physical strength, Agent Connell disconcerted DiNozzo at their interview when he shook hands with her.
The amount of strength possessed in the handshake caused DiNozzo to wince in pain. When during the course of the DiNozzo commented on her style of dress. Agent Connell asserted that her manner of dress and appearance were deliberate because, she felt that if she emphasized her beauty that it would ultimately result in a detrimental outcome because, she believed that her innate beauty would negate any chance that a fellow agent or suspect would take her seriously as a law enforcement officer.
Connell's file was forwarded to Special Agent Gibbs, for a final interview. Having been described as "unflappable" by McGee, the interview between Gibbs and Conell proved otherwise.
By the time the interview had between Gibbs and Connell was concluded, Agent Gibbs had reduced Connell to tears, and she exited the interview room crying and in a great hurry. Gibbs's response to DiNozzo and McGee was "Strike one."
